Creative Writing – How To Tell A Story

Class Description: This class is going to focus on the idea of”writing” and “storytelling”itself. What does it mean to be a writer, how do you write, how do you work with language, what does it mean to tell the truth, how to craft a story, etc. the class will focus on nonfiction and personal essays where students can use their own life experiences as a basis for their writing. Ideally, students have a level of maturity that can allow them to grow and develop as a writer on a daily basis. This will be a higher level workshop in terms of how they think about writing and what it means to capture a moment in a character’s life. It will be more perspective taking, deeper analysis on character psychology, and will gear students to be more prepared for college personal statements. We will work a lot more with details, line editing, and word choice with the hope that the students can finalize a select few essays.

At the end of the class, students will be leaving with 3-4 polished personal essays.
